I wonder how many, given a hypothetical situation in which we live forever as the default, would take a pill to artificially shorten their lifespan to 100 years.

No, but bad knees and diabetes hastens the inevitable. Hell, they might not even hurt as bad as the depression.
You’re right, depression can hurt a lot worse than pretty much any physical pain. I would encourage anyone to talk to someone if they were in that situation, because there are things that can help. That pain is not forever.
