Ask HN: What is your experience using Slack to run your public communities?

How do you handle the issue of messages over 10K getting lost?

I reached out to Slack support to see if they're able to offer a pricing plan that's based on message retention rather than the number of members in the community, and they said they only charge for "active" users and that they define active users this way:

> Sending 10+ messages in a given 7-day period or > Perform more than 9 cursor moves (such as starring a message, switching channels, creating a post, etc.) in at least 3 days of a 7-day period.

Has this worked out well for anyone paying for their community Slack workspace? Any surprises?
