A fresh new Firefox is here

“What inspires us the most are the people that love and use Firefox.”
    Firefox design team

What on earth possesses people to publish a statement like this? Who do they think needed to hear this sentence?

Backed by Mozilla, the non-profit that puts people first

Oh yeah? Like when you rammed Pocket down my throat? Or when you put ads on the "new tab" page? You can't mean the Rust team you fired, or the MDN team, so who do you mean? Your managers?

A fresh new Firefox is here

"fresh" is a word thoroughly destroyed by ad agencies. If someone calls something "fresh", I instinctively activate my scam defenses.

The whole page could have been summarized as "we changed how it looks". All the rest of the text just says "we think it is better now", which goes without saying.

Man how I long for a browser where I can feel taken seriously. A browser that doesn't frivolously changes the UI every few releases. In the new firefox, the tabs no longer look like, you know, tabs. A tab is a metaphor. It should look like the thing it is metaphoring. Now it looks like a series of unrelated buttons at the top of the window.

Mozilla's privacy stuff was at least semi believable until they started selling VPN services. Now they look like all the others scammers trying to hawk VPN services but then turn out to sell your data.

You know, it's a good thing Mozilla invested in some freshness. Most of the web based video conferencing tools don't support Firefox because it is missing some vital feature. You'd think that would be slightly more important than a new icon set.

I can't say I noticed the difference in font crispness and spacing.

And the Dark Reader extension that makes the body of websites dark with white text fails in 89. If you're using DR, do NOT disable it because you can't enable it again.
