Congratulations Italy: Måneskin win Eurovision Song Contest 2021

Congrats to the people votes, who could avoid a devastating win of Switzerland or France. For centuries the Eurovision song contest became the mirror of bad and boring western european chansons or pop songs, only Sweden could produce snappy pop song's from time to time. But with the inclusion of the Eastern European countries and audiences all got better. Much better. Not much Euro Pudding anymore, but genres like heavy metal, trance, rock and house. Italy won with a simple angry White Stripes rock song, Ukraine surprised with an extreme folk-dance mix, Finland with bombast heavy metal, Belgium with a Daft Punk song.

Italy even survived a devastating Eurovision camera in the finals. People voters apparently knew the proper youtube videos and semifinals appearance and didn't care. Huge blowout in the public voting.

My personal favorite was France. Didn’t understand a word of it, not even the title word Voila which is borrowed into English!

Yes, it’s even got me wondering if I properly understand the nuance of the word voila, because the singer puts so many different strains and emotions into repeating that one word. Gorgeous!

Yes Britain came last without any points at all, but I don’t think that was all brexit politics, I think it was a weak showing that underwhelmed. If you compare how involved other countries populations are in picking their entry, you can see how uninvolved and uncompetitive the UK is.

What is interesting this time is how many non-English entries there were, and how much better they did. This is a gradual change for the better.

I find the comment section on that page really disturbing. An incredible amount of homophobic statements.
