What about when charities engage in marketing to solve the dire needs of millions, are they being evil?

Bombs are used to mine stuff or build roads, they aren't evil either.

advertising/marketing is manipulative/evil

charities can appeal for help vs compete against other charities for the available $$$.

That's called marketing.
