French press coffee and drip are so different though!
French press has a rich mouth feel, but it can be kind of muddy. Including literally, the last sip generally must be left in the mug. It's good for a medium-grind French roast; a nice French press Kona can be sublime.
Drip is brighter, cleaner, and the flavors of the coffee really come through. You can get even sharper separation of notes with an Aeropress "Americano" style, but that is decidedly thin.
Which can be nice, but to my taste, most medium and light roast coffees really shine from a Chemex. You can get good results with Hario filters but the filters themselves aren't as good and you kind of have to fiddle with it. Fine ground, but not espresso fine.
Sure, I wouldn't use a machine, my goodness. But that's mostly because I'm a snob, a coffee which would be better in a Chemex will also be better from a (clean) drip machine than from a French press.
