Your problem with Vim is that you don’t grok vi

I sure learned a ton from this book on vi disguised as a StackOverflow answer.

I don't use Vim because I can never remember the command I need. Maybe Vim could add some sort of hierarchical navigation reminder that is visible on the screen but took up minimal space when not being used.

The problem is there’s too much to be shown in a hierarchical navigation.

If you can’t remember what you need then looking it up with :helpgrep (or just :helpg for short) and then type in part of a word of what you are trying to do.
