Curious.
Short CGTN video: “China launches 'Tianhe,' core module of space station ” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHdkt9ncb9M
Context. “Since 2011, the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has excluded the Chinese government or any organisations affiliated with China in any capacity, even non-political, from its activities, including using funds to host Chinese visitors at NASA facilities.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_exclusion_policy_of_NASA
Ten years later China launches the core module of its own space station. Necessity being the mother of invention.
For the HN crowd. In 2020 the US blocks the transfer of high tech semiconductors and semiconductor equipment to SMIC and Huawei – puts them and other companies on the benign sounding Entity List: https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2020/12/smic-and-d...
Prediction. By 2030 China will have its own 5nm and 3nm fabs.
Independent, and fully owning the IP, is the guiding principle of the current 5-year national plan.
Precise year or date is guess work, though.
But it's clear that the trajectory of innovation is on China's side. Innovation is built on top of resources, intellectual integrity, and market. Resources and market wise, China already surpasses US (in purchase power, and size in quantity and capital). Intellectual integrity is catching up. But I am confident in CCP's engineering prowess in that category.
After all, CCP engineered the biggest and the most important human mind transformation project in the entire human history: reforming China, from a feudal nation with thousands of years of continued cultural and political linage, to a socialism super power that reflecting not only the proud drawn from the long history, but also the unquenchable desire to rise and rise.
That's why I am amused by a lot of people's recognition on China. China is far beyond anyone's perception. The deeds condemned by popular critics are not even scratching the surface of CCP's impact on China...

Launch is at 52:45 https://youtu.be/JLtZlWvre88?t=3165
I'm impressed with CGTN, they normally don't show launches live if I'm not mistaken.
