Neither schools nor any other public institution nor even private entities (like corporations) should have any authority over people’s private speech made outside of their roles as students or employees or whatever. Otherwise what we have is a society where we don’t really enjoy the right to free speech but instead have to restrict our speech based on the rules set by these institutions’ leaders.
