Artist's Shit

Art is an almost subjective term. The only objective measure is the agreement of society on what it accepts as art. But this shows a constantly changing flux of influences.

The producers of art are for the most part just some combinatorical machines in human form providing the market with strange new combination of artifacts. A process they call creativity. But in the following it is the society that decides what is considered art. And since all human society is of a hierarchical structure, there are institutions that are more influencial in determining what is art and what value it has than others.

Today, art is what you get away with selling people as art.

So, if some influential art dealer is telling that canned shit from some more or less well known 'artist' is the hottest shit right now and somebody is buying that shit, then it is art.

Its value is a function of its estimated future value. And that is significantly influenced by art dealers not by artists nor consumers of art.

They are just different markets.

>work consists of 90 tin cans, each reportedly filled with 30 grams (1.1 oz) of faeces, and measuring 4.8 by 6.5 centimetres (1.9 in × 2.6 in), with a label in Italian, English, French, and German

>At the time the piece was created, Manzoni was producing works that explored the relationship between art production and human production, Artist's Breath (Fiato d'artista), a series of balloons filled with his own breath, being an example.

I guess maybe I'm just not cultured enough or something...but sometimes i just really don't get art.

Just when you think it can't get any more ridiculous, somebody pays for literal shit. Guess back in the day someone really needed to "spend some hard earned money on some shit and get a receipt for it" ehh...

I just lost my shit laughing as soon as I read this. Then I thought an hundred grand for just a tin of turds? Paying top whack for an old master I can understand and appreciate but tinned turd? No.
