Wouldn't have minded seeing a verbal battering either. In my mind it's just a poor (and unethically done) choice of research project in any case. From what I gleaned it amounted to testing their QA process/response, which doesn't seem like a particularly interesting research project. NSA have probably thoroughly tested that out anyway.
