Proof of Stake and Sustainable Mining Could Solve Bitcoin's Energy Problem

I also think it's never going to happen. Bitcoin is as static as it will ever get.
Arguing for proof of stake will only get the internet mad at you, not much technical discussion is even possible.
It could maintain proof of work and switch to argon2, thus eliminating the huge centralization of mining in ASICs and GPUs. But you can't touch the miners.
You could argue that smart contracts are great, and could integrate the latest and greatest now that we have done a lot of experimentation, but it's not going to happen.
There are improvements that could be integrated to have merely more transactions/sec, and not much has been done.
Technologically, bitcoin is dead. As an investment instead it seems to be going well.
