It astounds me to this day that AWS doesn't have a heroku-style "five clicks to have a github repo deploying at a url" PaaS offerring.

Beanstalk ain't it, and they cloned DO's "create a VM wizard" (Lightsail) but still no simple GitHub oauth webhook build/deploy.

PaaS is such a great and convenient model. It seems a major oversight to me on AWS's part.

Doesn't heroku run on aws? Ie: aws makes money from heroku?

Look up AWS Amplify

Looks like that's a Netlify competitor for building and hosting purely static sites.

It does a lot more than that. You can quickly add lambda functions.
