The ex-Pfizer scientist who became an anti-vax hero

So, he was a scientist at Pfizer. Does this make him an expert in epidemiology? No. There are lots of kinds of science in Pfizer, and there is no strong indication he really understands epidemiology, more than me (I am not an epidemiologist)
He's a specialist in Allergy and Respiratory research according to the Haaretz article.
Compare this to (emeritus) Prof. Ian Plimer, noted Australian Geologist, and long-time AGW denialist. He isn't a climate scientist. His core field relates, but is not the same. He has to resort to "its not really science" to maintain a coherent position, and is notably on the board of companies which stand to benefit from ignoring AGW.
I say this is a variation of the Gell-Mann effect, its more like the inverse Gell-Mann Effect. Gell-Mann says you see things in the paper in your core field, and say "thats crap" but you believe the other stuff you read. This is, you see things in your field you believe you understand, and see other things in other fields, and believe you must understand them too because you're a genius.
Science stands or falls on method and critique. Getting outside your core competency and doing the critique in blogs and the press rather than reasoning inside science, and publishing proof, or critique of proof, is really a-scientific.
When Scientists do this, it can be for good effect (pugwash maybe? there isn't a lot of "scienting" in what scientists do in pugwash, its mostly mapping science to policy) or it can be for bad effect. I think this is an instance of the bad effect. Whats the underlying evidence, that the vaccine is causing mass infertility? Where is he getting the data from, to tell him there is a radical reduction in womens (or mens) fertility which at root traces to the vaccine? Yes, there might be a drop in the UK birth rate. There are other reasons why, more plausible.
If there is some allegation the clotting goes to fertility it would really help if the reasoning was clear.

This is just an aside, but poor Murray Gell-Mann, always getting dragged into these discussions because Michael Crichton made up that effect, and named it after a famous scientist for the prestige.
It's even more ironic, because Michael Chrichton was a climate change denier and an anti-science crusader! Just watch Jurassic Park, Spielberg kept some of his BS! Then watch Jurassic Park 3 and fist pump over the kid trashing his book. So the "Gell-Man Effect" is literally an example of itself.
