This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they film the Radioactive Man film in Springfield, and the citizens and the mayor start doing ludcrious things to enrich themselves at the filmmakers' expense. Like in that episode, the end result of this isn't more money for locals, but companies leaving, a weaker economy and worse outcomes for everyone involved.
