I knew I was unsteady about Microsoft acquiring Github (and LinkedIn, etc.) but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. This article informs that feeling quite a bit. It's becoming more apparent to me that Microsoft is working behind the scenes to build their empire in a different world. They've realized that the desktop is lost and there are no more gains to be had there.
On the flip side, I'm pretty happy to have competition in the cloud. AWS is a monster and needs someone to temper their soul and push them to reduce transit costs. Maybe Azure will be that. Maybe not.
