"'It’s a double-edged sword,' says Bill Marczak, a senior researcher at the cybersecurity watchdog Citizen Lab. 'You’re going to keep out a lot of the riffraff by making it harder to break iPhones. But the 1% of top hackers are going to find a way in and, once they’re inside, the impenetrable fortress of the iPhone protects them.'"

It's an arms race. I want better security, but then the attacks get better to overcome it.

Security comes from understanding, and personal vigilance - not chain of trust to a corporation that will eventually falter.

This is so wildly untrue that it is a dangerous idea to spread. Your understanding and personal vigilance will not protect you. You are not as smart as you think you are. Chains of trust and certification are part of the long-term solution and effective delegation of trust and security is what enables everyone else to actually get things done.

I would rather people like you never use a computer again than the vast masses be prevented from doing so because we have set the bar required for privacy and security so high that only an expert can attempt it.
