I.e. a popular set of productivity tools with a cottage industry of people trying to teach it behind it.
If you look at it as a set of tools, you can make something really tailor-made for your team and on occasion it lead to creating a truly bespoe process that fits our team needs and doesn't have anything to do with scrum anymore :-)
With things like standups, backlog refinements, storypoint estimation, based on my experience this works for team of 3 to 10 people, with a clear responsibility that work together on a project for at least 6 sprints (usually 2 weeks/sprint), where new work can wait for new sprint to start.
It helped us focus, storypoints started to work for estimating stuff after ~3 sprints, our managers got used to "no, we won't start working on it right away, put it in the backlog, you will join for prioritization anyway".
