Ask HN: Reject by Stripe Match and I'm given 5 days to migrate out

Hi all,

I run a very small SaaS which is launched recently https://hanami.run

We got happy customers and they are all happy. Today I got this email from Stripe:

https://gist.github.com/v9n/41bc2837672d43354b1048622f0c0657

I wonder if anyone has encounter this problem and how you're able to continue using Stripe? I don't know if I will be able to migrate to different system in 5 days :( and Stripe is a really good system.

This used to happen in the past, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21306225 and Stripe chimed in to help me.

I have tried to reach out to Edwin from Stripe but I'm really worried now. My SaaS are gaining traction and I don't think other payment providers are better or easier to integrate than Stripe.

I really hope to continue using it. Any tips/tricks to help convince Stripe reverse this decision would be greatly appreciated.

You need to find out why you are listed in MATCH. Being listed there could have a major effect on the prices you'll pay and who will take your business.

At the same time, you better find out a new provider quickly as I doubt Stripe can do anything for you. When Stripe gets their agreements setup with the card networks they agree to a fee based on client risk and they can't accept clients that would be outside that category without being in violation of their agreement. So I doubt you'll get much relief from Stripe without getting off MATCH so they can say you aren't a "high" risk.

Good luck! I think the 5 days is total BS, but not sure how they came to that number and if that is imposed on them. Seems totally unreasonable to ask a business to change integrated card processors in 5 days IMO.

Do you know how and where I can find out about MATCH? I just openned this business bank with Chase. It's my first business and also my first SaaS and this is the first time I used Stripe or charge people's credit card. I haven't done any business before and never charge money before this so I'm not sure how I got on MATCH.

One thing is it may related to my home address or my POBox address which may trigger some old business in there?

Given this is your first business and you say you've not had one before you should reach out to Stripe support with the details. Likely this is a non-unique submission then, based maybe on a common name and location or something along those lines.

You can look at Stripe's link in the email they sent you it shows what information a clearing bank would've used to add you to the list. Something is showing up. Maybe Stripe can at least tell you which bank listed you on MATCH so you can try and work through it.

With what you are saying you might be able to push with Stripe a little if you can prove it isn't you, as that should be within Stripe's authority to state it isn't the same business/person. But even if you succeed there, I'd still work with Mastercard to make sure your business isn't confused with the one currently listed again.

This is full email from Stripe:

``` Hi Vinh,
Thanks for using Stripe!
Unfortunately, it looks like your website, hanami.run, or a previous business you were associated with, is listed on MATCH or another terminated merchant file operated by the card networks. In this situation, we will not be able to continue accepting charges on your Stripe account.
That said, we understand that there may be some work involved with moving your business away from Stripe, and we’re happy to help out with this process by giving you 5 days to switch to a new provider. After that, you won’t be able to accept additional charges on your account, but we will continue making transfers to your bank account until you receive all of your funds[1].
If you need an alternative payment processor, we recommend considering PaymentCloud, which works with businesses with a higher level of risk than we're able to support: https://paymentcloudinc.com/stripe.
We completely understand how frustrating this situation is for you. If you'd like to try to remove this block, you will need to reach out to your previous processors to check why you were placed on this list and how your can remove yourself from it. While we'd love to be able to directly help you sort this out, we unfortunately don't have any additional information for you.
Please visit https://stripe.com/docs/disputes/match for more information on MATCH.
Again, we're sorry for not being able to be more helpful here and wish you luck with your business. ```
