This is part of a bigger problem: people trust any kind of garbage people post on social media like Facebook and Twitter--instead of relying on traditional media for their news. While there are lots of problems with traditional media, it at least tries to have some quality control. [For example anti-vaccination posts.]

And that's why we get so upset when traditional media's quality controls fail. This has been an item of major concern over the past few years for me.

I followed the attempted GME short squeeze on reddit and on the traditional news (like Associated Press and all the news sources linked to by yahoo and news section of financial apps). The reporting in traditional media was inaccurate and misleading to the point I doubt that was just poor job at reporting.

In all three videos, the chin looks like it doesn't quite fit on the original actor's face. There are also a number of moments where the lip movements don't match the speech audio.

All fixable in time, no doubt.

I wonder if there is anyway society can progress faster? Right now we're waiting for boomers to die out because they can't cope with Facebook. Will the kids born 10 years ago have to wait for my generation to die out because we think all fakes on YouTube are real?

It honestly worries me. It's pretty well proven that science advances only when old scientists, leaders in their fields, die. Imagine a society where the majority still though interracial marriage (let alone gay marriage) was wrong. And only because they thought that when they were 20 and haven't updated since...

I hope so. I really hope I will be able to become immortal and in a youthful condition. This would be a big thing for me, because I can't enjoy life at all knowing that every single day I spend is one day closer to my death. It's just impossible to enjoy life without being immortal in my view. I always feel anxious that I'm not spending the best time possible, no matter what I do.

One of the reasons I really want to become rich beyond belief too, so I could a) Support this tech, b) Be one of the first to get this as the first ones will be the ones who can afford to bid the most, and also it may be limited, you can't possibly in the beginning stages have all 8B of people have this treatment.

I believe that has been a commonly held view by humans throughout history and explains the reason for some sort of after-life being pre-installed in nearly all religions.

From an individual pov, yes please extend my life forever. From a species pov, it seems like a possible evolutionary dead end.

maybe it'll go 360 and let people get out of real video evidence by saying/"proving" it's a deepfake.

That's the biggest impact on society it will have imho. It's the end of accountability. Everything becomes plausibly deniable.

Video editing has been a thing since there was video, and other types of evidence have been forge-able forever. Frankly, if there's no corroborating evidence and no reliable chain-of-custody, video evidence should be considered just as suspect as anything else. Really, the CSI era where people just trust some arcane source of truth and question neither how that evidence was collected nor interpreted has been extremely harmful, and we should hope it soon comes to an end.
