Ask HN: Anybody want to work on something together?

I'm starting to feel a bit lonely and less motivated than ever before. If anybody feels the same way and wants to collaborate on a project or even just chat about some ideas let me know in the comments. Now feels like a great time to be building and not just consuming!

I've struggled to meet like-minded people and this has become harder with lockdown for me. I haven't found a good forum for doing so and having been on hackernews for the last decade I figured why not post here.

I'm a data scientist by day and have worked in finance, healthcare, and public policy. For fun I like to work on a wide range of side-projects using python and django/flask but would be open to trying something new and even non-technical.

I currently work in finance (high frequency trading) and am honing my data science skills (I use pandas a lot for work, branching into pytorch and fastai), and as a hobby I'm working on a collaborative open-source fiction platform.

I'm down for new and existing projects.

Feel free to add me on Discord: Father Fox#2368

I'm also looking to work with 1 or 2 people on a fun project. I have a few ideas backed by domain expertise that I've researched and believe have good chances of success.

What interesting things have you built, and what are your strengths and weaknesses? Let's see if we'll be a good fit.

I'm interested in working with you and your ideas

There's nothing robust enough for me to show you, even though I've been working on a special project for the last 3 years, and multiple other projects I wasn't able to launch due to not having enough funds. I have experience with both front-end and back-end web development, with a particular focus on design and product development. I don't have school, which gives me more than enough time to spend on learning, experimenting and building for projects. I'm a minor, and probably not living in the same country as you, making it harder for me to deal with business matters when needed. I'm not able to properly participate in voice and video conferencing due to my lack of the necessary equipment.

How to contact you ?

You can discord me --> Notriv #7401

use #hackathons channel on the discord server https://discord.gg/MzhGqQC to discuss projects and find collaborators.

How did this platform become a home for people who understand technology?

Because it was created by people who understand technology :)

Ah, right - the "who needs security and privacy - we're building things so fast!" crowd.

No, there are people there who are not of that view. The members of the server come from various backgrounds and experience. Join in and start a conversation, and see if you can help some budding entrepreneurs.

I'll help work on a six pack

Six pack of beer or abs?

Beer

Looks like we've got a few things in common. I've no time to start or join a project, but I'd enjoy some conversation and someone to bounce ideas around with. What's the best way to get in touch?

Join the discord server https://discord.gg/MzhGqQC

There are lot of engineers and startup founders(aspiring as well as veterans) on that server. Everyone will welcome your insights.

How about this project: https://bsldld.neocities.org

I am looking for fellow engineers to work with. Let me know if interested.

Cannot change the original comment, hence adding a new one.

sure maybe we could

Data scientist here, moved onto leadership for now but would be good to get hands dirty

lets chat

There is a discord server for that: https://discord.gg/MzhGqQC

Are you working with the OP or is this different? programmingbuddy#1201

EDIT: I wasn't sure how discord works. The OP posted a discord username, not a different channel (I think)

> Are you working with the OP or is this different?

It is a separate server.

> I wasn't sure how discord works.

Discord (https://discord.com) allows a user to create a "server" for a topic of interest. Other discord users can then join the server. The admins of the server can create multiple channel for discussing sub-topics.

> The OP posted a discord username, not a different channel (I think)

Yes, you are right. OP posted his/her username. Whereas I posted a discord server link. You can join the server by creating a discord account on https://discord.com

By the name of the server this seems to be at least unofficially associated with YC? Is this primarily for projects backed by YC or just commercial projects?

It is for people who are working on side-projects, startups and or want to build a startup. It is open for everyone. It is to help each other as well as find someone to work with on a project.

You've been on hackernews for the last decade, but you don't have any comments, and no submissions prior to this one? :)

their account was created just before posting this... So throwaway or lurker

much like myself

Yup, I’ve actually been on hn since 2008, but I’ve rotated/lost accounts over the years. I sort of wish I had one of those old accounts however for posterity.

Aha, I see. I thought it was a throwaway account, which seemed odd for someone who was wanting to get partners in a project. Good luck on whatever you end up doing!
