Australia passes new media law that will require Google Facebook to pay for news

This is bad for everyone involved. In the short term, media outlets may get some extra money, but in the long they are completely giving up their reach to the big four.

Most importantly, this is belong Googlafecebooks to build a bigger moat. If you are a tiny little startup, Australia can now demand that you too pay for content shared on your platform. Can’t pay? Too bad!

Googlafacebooks are publicly pushing against this, but privately well aware this is only in their interest.
