Congratulations to everybody involved! Not my language anymore but glad to see it getting a little better than before!
If you are in academia (like me, PhD in compilers), you are stuck with it unless you go with Haskell route. Any small improvement to Scala is very appreciated.
I don't think Scala and Haskell are the only two languages in academic compiler work. Try research with LLVM, Graal, Racket, for example if you want to work with something else. Those are all popular as well.
Check Graal ecosystem or Racket (if you are into programming language theory more than compilers).
Not sure how much Scala 3.0 will actually matter in the industry, but it is nice to see it finally happening.
why would you think it won’t matter?
Because platforms languages are the ones that matter most, as Java evolves, while it will never be like Scala, it will be good enough for the large majority that used Scala as better Java.
