Considering that most young people in tech have parents significantly wealthier than them, it's amazing to me that more people don't pursue this route and insist on throwing money away on rent.
I know it's not as cool as the bohemian atmosphere of living with startup teammates in a shared house, but living rent-free in your family's spare home is the responsible and quick way to save tons of money!
Citation needed. Thinking back, only 2-3 devs (out of 100-200?) I know come from families wealthy enough to have empty houses to spare. At least AFAIK.
My bet that FAANG will get more office space in NYC as it cheap and there is plenty of work force to get from the financial services industry.
> The only two out-of-state destinations among the top 20 were Travis County in Texas, home of Austin...
Lots of people moving around the area but only a net 61K people, less than 1%, moved out of the Bay Area. Basically below the noise floor unless you are someplace receiving the immigrants.
Top places - 1 Alameda County
- other parts of the Bay Area (top 6 all Bay Area )
- 7 LA area
- 8 San Diego
- 9 Napa
- 10,11,12 various Cali metros (Sacramento etc)
- 13 Nevada
- 14 Solano
- 15 Santa Cruz
The top 15 are all California counties, but of 10-12 only Sacramento would even loosely be a “metro” (though it's not referring to the metro but the county, which are not coextensive.)
9 and 14 are Bay-adajacent, though not part of the 9-county Bay Area.
Shouldn't be a big surprise.
