Currently requires 3GB Minimum to run the 'INSTALLER' and not the OS it installs...
Surely this is backwards and wrong?
No, it is true!
This was one of the things that made me switch over to Debian. Back then I could download a 50MB mini.iso, then get on my installation. Now I have to download some huge file and use an installer that does not give me much control, also has bad documentation.
I can imagine, I was also exploring Debian 10 again for this reason.
How on earth does an installer need 3GB of RAM and a 1.1GB ISO image to boot from?
It seems to download the ISO in memory and then extract it on a RAM disk.
