Ask HN: Does touch screen display anything?

I am really interested to know whether a touchscreen is capable of displaying anything or just transfers the points to CPU for processing. Do we need another display like LCD or TFT to display and touch screen panel to identify the co-ordinates? Please Help. Thanks!
