Crikey, that's going to be confusing. Why not separate capture variables from comparison variables by using tuple-style brackets?

  RED = "red"
  colour = "green"
  
  match colour:
    case (RED,):
      print(f"The colour is {RED}")
  
  > The colour is green

  match colour:
    case RED:
      print(f"The colour is {RED}")

  > The colour is red
