Who started modernity? Meet the Italian capitalist who launched our world

I've kept reading through the article to find out who that Italian was, but all I found was Jakob Fugger, I guess the clickbait title did its job ;)

It might make more sense to change the title to "European", because there were no nation states in the modern sense (like "Italy" or "Germany") in the 15th century.
