“The DTK was made available strictly to developers on a loan, not purchase basis, at a cost of US$500”
⇒ Any anger should be about that contract, not about this offer (which is better than what people signed up for), and, IMO, would have to have been vented at least half a year ago.
This pretty much sums up modern Apple.
Developers are not working with Apple, but for Apple.
And oh, the $200 Credit is only valid until May 31st.
It's disgusting the complete lack of self awareness and bean counter mentality. I've always hold off joining the bashing Tim Cook party because nobody can be Steve Jobs, but goddamn Tim is not even a toe of Steve Jobs.
You can argue that the price was too steep for a loan, or that Apple should be offering a more generous incentive to return the hardware. I wouldn't disagree. But it's not like Apple was unclear about this.[0][1]

[2] To everyone who dealt with faulty hardware, I think Apple should be quietly offering refunds, not just a partial store credit. But to everyone else, they received the service promised by Apple in full and should be stoked at the $200 return incentive.
