Yup. I don't think they realize the difference between a broker and an exchange. Good getting anyone to list their stock on a chaotic distributed non-exchange.

The author of the article has no understanding of what counterparty risk during stock settlement looks like. If they did, they would have included the explanation in their "To be fair to RobinHood" section, and the entire essay would have been a nothingburger.

Instead of educating themselves about what is a very simple concept, they are peddling conspiracy theories... But that's because reality is a lot more boring, and a lot less sexy than the hedge fund boogieman.

On a technical front, their claims are complete bunk. Cryptocurrencies cannot handle even a tiny fraction of the transaction volume of an exchange - at least, without introducing a separate, off-blockchain transaction and settlement layer... Which re-introduces counterparty risk during settlement! The exact problem that you are trying to use a blockchain to avoid comes back to bite you.
