1) don't write stupid shit on Facebook
2) don't vote for morons who don't understand how precious democracy is
The lesson is to recognize that for a significant portion of conservatives, they like what they see. They like the white nationalism, and the conspiracy theories. The truth hurts them and they prefer the lies. The leader of the House Republicans cannot condemn Greene like they once condemned Steve King whose embrace of racism and conspiracies was more nuanced than Greene. Yet McCarthy has spent more time criticizing Cheney than Greene. Trump and McCarthy are explicitly targeting Cheney to be primaried in 2022. They are scared of their own constituents as well as Trump.
The lesson is Republicans will choose this version of conservatism over democracy. The official Republican party platform in 2020 was only "support Trump".
The lesson for Democrats is to stop trying to rehabilitate the Republican party. Let them stand alone doing whatever it is they want to do. And that includes ending the filibuster which provably does not improve compromise and unity, it just gives the minority an opportunity to make the majority look like a clown show and then the majority loses elections. If Democrats want people to understand how precious democracy is, they need to show it works by enacting nationally popular policies.
