Papercraft Models of Computers

I made the Amiga 500 papercraft model from this site but had stuck the print-out to some card to give the model a bit of heft, and made my very own Amiga 500 Christmas ornament. I couldn't find a way to include the mouse nicely (without it just dangling there) so I left it off. I enjoyed making the model and it looked great on my tree!

Use a stiff wire for the mouse cable so it holds the mouse and mouse pad in position next to the computer.

The download links for the models are trying to serve malware. Is anyone else having this problem?

Not for me. The link (I only tried the CPC 464) served a pdf thru docdroid.net. Although I tried on an iOS device. Sometimes this things are smart and check the user agent before pushing a payload.

Yes, I have the same problem on my iPhone

What type of malware, specifically? They all seem to point to docdro.id and the download link there is a direct one to a PDF.

On android I get popups that expect me to install something and/or enable notifications etc. On my desktop PC (windows) there were no issues

Yes. I was presented an official looking Apple prompt on my iPhone which said something along the lines of: Install the the VPN to continue safely browsing.

Yes, it chains to some kind of fake Flash installer.

I first got a modal prompt implying that I had just chosen to install MacKeeper, then after closing that got several "notifications" to "update" my "Flash player."

These papercraft models are a treasure, but it looks like the author needs to get away from this DocDroid platform as soon as possible.

Yes same here, tried to get me to install something on my android. Please leave this provider asap! But I love these so much I'll happily host them all on my CDN if you'd like.

And how would they contact you?

A reply to this comment would be perfect!

Hi there! I am looking to switch hosting and if you could provide me with info I would be interested in changing over. I don't want to responsible for spreading Malware!

Looks like someone injected this into his page:

Which isn't too stealthy about its business. For example:

function postAntiadblockInfo(zoneid, format)

I am honoured to be included on one of the coolest boards out there. I am not much of a true hacker but I am so happy to be able to contribute to the discussion.

If anyone can suggest better alternate hosting, I would be happy to move them to that new location. Thanks for the head's up. I guess a crew of hackers would be quick to spot the exploit..

I just moved my model hosting from do docdroid to scribd. I am hoping that will eliminate the whole malware issue. Please let me know if any new issues arise and thank you all for bringing this issue to my attention!

I was hoping these would be functional models. Since you can probably cram an Esp32 or Pi Zero into these cases and run an emulator at native speed, you can create semi-functional replicas of old computers: https://3dprint.com/48212/3d-print-retro-apple/

Wow! This is great. Reminds me a pop-up book from 1984 (which I still own)

The pop-up models were awesome, and explained the inner workings of a digital computer. It’s how I learnt to count in binary as a 7 year old kid.

I know I’m getting old when Nintendo GameCube is considered vintage.

I'm 38 now with some gray hair. The GameCube came out when I was in high school.

P.S. The emulation of curved CRT in these paper models is a really nice touch.

AFAIK baked beans were never an official ZX Spectrum accessory although of course a bottle of milk was essential for the ZX80 ;)

Fyi, you can create papercraft models from any mesh using Pepakura Designer: https://tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/index.html

I would buy an Atari 520ST model just to burn it down...

Great idea, I really like to have 3d printed, historic, server models, so I can build model datacenters. Model railways is so last century..

Baked beans included with the ZX Spectrum model <3 http://rockybergen.com/whatsnew/2019/8/17/sinclair-zx-spectr...

No Commodore PET. As a person who started there I'm indignant. (but secretly these are pretty cool)

Ah, but the link to the model seems to be broken.

This is where waybackmachine comes in handy: https://web.archive.org/web/20160401173732/http://homecomput...

When I was a kid there was a book called Professor Fortran's Encyclopedia which came with similar paper models. Unfortunately, I didn't own the book (took it from a library) so I wasn't able to build them :)

I was hoping for some kind of paper logic, not another cardboard box Gundam.

Malware aside, these are beautiful! I would have killed for these when I was younger loving both papercraft and computers

The C-64 is nice but it doesn't have the USB attachment that my real C-64 sports these days.

This would have been a fantastic lockdown activity, what an awesome idea!

The bonus pictures of the Sega Master System... Wow.

Wow, what a fantastic idea. There goes the weekend.

This will be fun to spend time on ;p
