I think sometimes there is a cultural disconnect between what is considered fine in China (and I mean culturally and by the general public, not the government) and not so fine in the West, and that can be used and spun for political purposes.
If you take a more practical view and say that SOME things are culturally relative and others apply universally, I would argue that the government dictating human reproductive practices violates many human rights.
IMO governments should not control the production of humans.
Either way, I respect your view on this, just happen to disagree.
In general I agree. But as always there are circumstances in which action may be positive for the general good (General point, not about this article).
In fact, that can be linked to cultural differences: Does the individual trump everything else or (s)he is only part of a group? This is not black and white and different cultures move the needle differently on the dial.
