I know K8s is already huge in select spaces like SV and surrounding ecosystems.

I'd like to think it has potential to take tech to the next level. For example, the Bloomberg article from 2017 about Philips cutting IoT bulb startup from 3 seconds (forever in consumer electronics) to 200ms.

Or am I falling for a bunch of hot air? Thoughts?

It's already here, so "next" is not really accurate anymore. Think of it like linux for the datacenter. Great APIs, abstractions, ecosystem, and community. "Zero to One" in Thiel speak, the moat is likely insurmountable at this point.

I recommend checking out https://cuelang.org for some "next" tech. (hint, it's the configuration half of the Borg / GCL pair)
