Bird feeders blamed for deadly (for birds) salmonella outbreak

My Sisters cat caught and ate a bird two days ago on their patio deck before she could stop him and he is now very sick at the vet. The cat is very old and it was strange for him to be able to catch one, now it turns out the bird was infected.
