The Bitcoin market with 1 BTC valued at $20,000 would be as large as JPMorgan’s total market valuation. The Bitcoin market with 1 BTC valued at $50,000 would be as large as Google’s total market valuation.

The Bitcoin market with 1 BTC valued at $100,000 would be as large as Apple’s total market valuation.

The Bitcoin market with 1 BTC valued at $300,000 would still be smaller than gold’s total market valuation.

Why would one compare the market cap of a commodity like BTC to that of a for-profit corporation?

Does one normally compare the value of all platinum in the world to the value of Microsoft?

It's useful only in that we can understand what certain huge # market caps mean. Seasoned economists, traders, etc don't need those comparisons but it's helpful for the rest of us.
