Medium is awful - why do people choose to use it? I'd like to read this article, but it won't let it to me without signing up or installing an app. No thanks.
It would be nice if HN blocked articles that required installing an app or paying a subscription etc to view.
There's this userscript I created a few days ago that can open the incognito window for you in those cases: https://gist.github.com/kidd/d53ca34477c45ee927105fc03b41797... . Not rocket science, but I'm happy with it so far
I've never encountered the login page for any article I've tried to read on medium.com. I wonder what triggers it?
IIRC, we decided it was blocking cookies that prevents it, with a side of blocking JS.
The guidelines allow paywalled links (unfortunately, my opinion).
I used it recently because of two reasons - the network effect, and it is the best in its category that's available. A competing platform with as nice of typography and layout would be welcomed.
This is an official feature of medium.
