Open Source Stash – Privacy-focused, powerful, secure open-source alternatives

This other website I have been using is likely more comprehensive, no-gimmicks, and fast: https://awesomeopensource.com/
Also see: https://github.com/ripienaar/free-for-dev (freetiers)
I think that explains why this website isn't open source itself.
Not to say Photopea isn’t fantastic (it is!), but in the context of this thread (open source software) it may not be suitable for many.
It also allows you to submit new recommendations via the extension itself which submits a pull request to its GitHub project.
What's interesting is that: the extension lets you subscribe to multiple sources for recommendations (much like adblocking filters). This means that curation of alternatives can be done by people YOU trust and could incorporate criteria other than license: Ethical, Low-priced, Locally produced, Sustainable etc.
Here I am with Firefox Focus staring at an almost blank page (except for three page links) because of content and tracker blockers. I usually don’t even bother to explore further in such cases.
This "website" is nothing more than a spreadsheet transformed into a dumpster fire of gratuitous Javascript and third party requests with https://spreadsimple.com.

Perhaps showing a pinephone or a Librem 5 would be more fitting.
Anyway, user freedom is the main point of free software and, supposedly, of the original article. In that sense, it's hard to argue that Apple ranks any higher than even MS.
The app store being incompatible with the GPL is really the choice of the writers of the GPL and those who use it as their license. Other open source licenses are not incompatible with it, it is just the GPL that chose to be.
Moreover, you didn't even address the point that Apple makes it increasingly difficult (and sometimes even impossible) to distribute code for their platform without the use of their proprietary SDK. That, of course, is an artificial requirement by Apple, yet again signiling that they are not friendly towards free softwre.
Note that, a hostile environment for free software does not mean that there is no free software or that free software is impossible. If that was the case, I would've used that wording. It's hostile because it makes it harder for free software to exist and because it does not integrate/cooperate well with free software.
1. Don't make people scroll one-page to actually see the software list/cards
2. My first reaction is to find the search text box which is not easy to locate. Make it prominent, front and in centre.
Until I've read this comment I didn't even realise there was a scrollbar and dismissed the page as just another fancy looking landing page. /shrug
When you can have accounting packages and ERP software for million dollar orgs running on Foss software like erpnext, akaunting? Its not like lawyers are a niche market in the world.
The interesting thing is, I can find dozens of "dental practice" software and packages on sourceforge and github but none about lawyers.
Dont open source advocates/lawyers need open source tools? Anyone from the EFF legal team here? What do you guys use in house ?
Edit: I would be glad to assist in development by giving time and inputs.
A highly competitive market keep firms from collaborating on common [open source] goals and processes. Firms may have value systems far apart in their mission guiding their own work wich creates a social obstacle. A highly competitive (read: expensive) domain as it can be - professional signaling towards clients and competitor includes status and quality services; in which open source may be irrelevant at best, and dedicated person-to-person conduct of business is one of the best ways to deliver trust and quality. Maybe as a lawyer, you are better off using such de-facto standards as Clio.
I believe our most recent ML & AI have managed to breath some air into the historically tricky task of computationally work legalese in a practic way. A firm would probably keep a successful solution to themselves.
My hypotethical 5¢. /j
what you are saying is network effect is helping companies not allowing a foss competitor because that would cut into their bottom line?
so, i am offering my inputs. all the legal clinics around the world who need software for their day to day management who currently rely on google sheets and excel would love a foss alternative. self hosted would work for them.
the stuff used in house is probably not supposed to be known to your customers/competitors so network effect is out.
remember. tools dont need safeguarding. the knowledge inside does.
We talked a lot about gaps in the market, but when talking to our clients, they really were not interested in anything that didn't come from a largish vendor. Compliance, liability and the belief that somehow the people writing it should also have passed the bar were frequently mentioned.
Those folks will never run something they pulled off Github.
you said your clients were lawyers. my question, how "big" were your clients? were they shoe string budgeted legal clinics, one man pratices or medium/large multi corps?
compliance and liability is talked about stuff which is usually customer facing, has some cloud version that might be stealing data and all that. There is little problems in running offline self hosted solutions that only reside in the local network and "for your eyes only" end to end.
"We're sorry but viewer-app doesn't work properly without JavaScript enabled. Please enable it to continue."
I’ll report back on how much traffic this brings.
So far awesomeopensource.com has brought the most traffic among all the directories mentioned in this thread.
Also hopefully, over time, they gain a preference for Free Software since they seem to prefer Open Source for ethical reasons. It's a point of pride for Open Source that it asks no ethical questions; only because of that it conforms to the ethical stance of Free Software because it's willing to conform to the ethical stance of any distributor.

Made me laugh, thanks.
How do we submit here our open source platform https://github.com/Qbix/Platform
The RSS feed doesn’t validate so you’d want to browse it with a browser, rather than track it with a feed reader.
NewsBlur doesn't complain that anything is wrong, but it will skip specific items that do not validate - so it all looks dandy, but it misses updates.
Wekan https://wekan.github.io has:
- Dark Theme at => Board Settings => Color => Dark. Although, only for per board, not as Global theme yet.
- Markdown and GitHub emojis https://github.com/wekan/wekan/wiki/Emoji
About comparisons:
- Yes, comparisons are very time consuming to make. Most comparisons at Internet are out of date, usually new features are added to software all the time. I also have not found up-to-date comparisons site. Comparisons pages can also get very long, some kind of summary would be nice, if possible. I should sometime try to update this out-of-date comparisons page https://github.com/wekan/wekan/wiki/Wekan-vs-Trello-vs-Resty... , after creating that there has been many changes.
- For example, Wekan has some same features that Trello also has. Wekan has some features Trello does not have, like Open Source, self-hosting, Swimlanes, etc. Trello has some features Wekan does not have, like burndown charts.
