Facial Hair Is Biologically Useless. So Why Do Humans Have It?

It's worth pointing out that boxes of N95 face masks made by different manufactures that I acquired before COVID-19 struck—which I'd regularly used in industrial environments against dust and dangerous particulates—all stated that facial hair/beards would significantly reduce the effectiveness of the mask.
This is stating the damn obvious. It is also worth noting that pre-COVID-19 some industrial environments that required people to wear masks also banned people with facial hair/beards for the reason that masks would not be as effective on said wearers.
