Ask HN: Is anyone working on anti-drone tech?

Given all the controversy over (and seeming inevitability of) weaponized drones and other military uses of autonomous systems, is anyone working on or otherwise aware of countermeasures?

If they are, I can't imagine how they'd get an edge in a literal arms race against organizations with combined budgets of more than $1 trillion.

I don't see any reason China won't soon become a dystopian society with a combination of facial recognition and autonomous drones enforcing the will of the CCP.

The only way to protect yourself from that kind of situation is to try to prevent small groups from accumulating too much power (whether they're government officials, corporations, or even lobbyist groups).

I think a lot of projects exist specifically on using drones and lasers / dazzlers:

I believe some submarines are also working on submarine drones that can be deployed:

Although I think in the end, there will also be anti-drone drones, kind of like how you have fighter jets and bombers.

Submarines capable of launching drone swarms of bombers and fighters would be a game changer since it would almost make traditional carriers obsolete. Due to hypersonic missiles that day is getting close.

Carriers are at the center of a massive bubble of defenses up to 1000 miles in diameter. Carriers won't be obsolete as long as aircraft are not obsolete.

Quite a few. Anduril, Epirus, and others. Google “counter UAS” for companies that do this with a wide range of techniques from kinetic (hit it) to microwave (emp like).

"(and seeming inevitability of) weaponized drones" - it is not inevitable, it happened already.

Low-cost kamikaze drones seem like an unexplored but promising option.

While this is likely not low cost, the Anvil[0] seems to be a reusable intercept drone. I have yet to see it in action, but I could imagine it looks pretty cool.

I heard that the company is pretty controversial, but I find their tech to be very cool nevertheless.

Dead link. Did you mean to post https://apsystems.com/tech

Dedrone. https://www.dedrone.com/

Remington, Mossberg, et al have made anti-drone technology for a long time

And I'm gonna truly laugh if traditional gun makers go to bat for HERF weapons.

Guns?

Anduril?
