Show HN: UK Company Dashboard and Search (Lockdown Project)

Hi HN,

https://companies.bx.tc

My colleague and I put together this tool for easily searching UK company data. We run a few server side batches daily to extract data from various government sources before linking it all together in (what is now) a fairly large database.

We're also using this project as a way to test out a new JS UI library we built (similar to Vue, but a bit faster) to see how it stands up in a real project.

We'd love to hear your feedback and any ideas you have for how we can improve the dashboard!

Thanks :)

Very impressed. I am working on a global directory of all cyber security vendors. As an industry analyst one of the first things I do is search things like Pitchbook, Crunchbase, or CBInsights, for categories of companies. Sadly, categorizing companies is extremely difficult. I have done it manually for the 3,000 vendors in my database. A search on your data reveals only companies with "cybersecurity" in their names. That will miss most of the 174 UK cybersecurity product vendors. Thanks for sharing your work!

Thanks for the feedback! You have an interesting use case - would it be helpful if we provided the ability to filter all companies under a particular SIC code?

That, with an API would have me as a paying customer. We have a project on our backlog to build this ourselves - I’d rather pay for a SaaS and concentrate on other things.

Happy to discuss our use case, email is in my profile.

Not for my purposes I am afraid. SIC codes tell you very little about what a modern company does. Oracle for instance has SIC Code 7371 - Computer Programming Services.

Looks great! What makes this different from things like pitchbook, for example? And any plans to monetise in the future?

Thanks - the key difference is that our product is focused on all registered companies in the UK. Also our financial numbers come from submissions that companies have made to the UK government, so are likely to be pretty accurate.

No immediate plans to monetise, however given one of the other comments on this post, we may actually do that in the future.

Given the current state of the product, do you feel it's something that people would pay money for?
