Pornhub also attached the figures provided by Internet Watch Foundation comparing CSAM found in other platforms:
Facebook: 84,100,000
Instagram: 4,452,000
Twitter: 1,466,398 - You can navigate through the old reports near the top on the right hand side, adding up the totals from the last two years.
Pornhub: 118
So according to their own stats, pornhub has zero self reports. They describe a few technologies used and it seems reasonable that they would report how many times these technologies identified and removed content.
That they aren’t presenting this data in their defense is not a good sign.
>Unverified users are now banned from uploading content — a policy no other platform has put in place, including Facebook, which reported 84 million instances of child sexual abuse material over the last three years. In comparison, the Internet Watch Foundation reported 118 incidents on Pornhub over the last three years.
Incidentally Pornhub is really a company called Mindgeek, so its tech employees can keep their resumes SFW. Worth knowing whether you are pro- or anti- Pornhub specifically or porn in general.
FB and Twitter make more reports and publish more transparently. I’d also wager that reports = (all content #)(prevalence rate of CSAM)(detection sensitivity)*(reporting rate) and FB/TWTR probably have infinitely higher first terms, and better 3 and 4th terms in the equation.
I expect it was the same people were white-knighting on Reddit in one window while simultaneously consuming this material on Pornhub in another.
On the bright side, people who pay for content are getting onboard the crypto train.
I'd argue that this is a serious matter.
I mean no offense to these victims, but unfortunately, you have to engage with the legal system if you also want private entities to participate as well. Otherwise they set a standard that anybody who wanted anything taken down could just claim "rape, etc" and then they'd be shooting themselves in the foot for a legitimate lawsuit.
I get that it's hard, but many of these victims need to realize when you make a bold claim such as that, you need to completely commit to that path. Otherwise it's still strictly hearsay.
Pornhub does not deny any of the allegations in the NYT article. They only claim that they have instituted policies to address the issues raised in the article.
They are a shady bunch and don’t seem to care about the victims, otherwise they would have invested more of their profits into detecting abuse and exploitation.
I hope they get shutdown or be replaced by a better leadership so that a more ethical platform can arise.
