Have seen it previously on HN, but last time didn't see a comment that I now have, linking to http://www.ephraimkishon.de/en/my_favorite_stories.htm

Possibly because I'm English (?) I don't quite follow what I presume is/are the stereotype/s behind that joke, could anyone enlighten me?
