Great idea, but seems broken to the point of uselessness with the current algorithm.

For example, a glance at the front page has a set of Henkels Knifes priced at $250, as $10.50 per month I.e. a little over 2 years of use, and a $130 Zojirushi Rice cooker at $17.10 per month - less than 1 year of usefulness.

These are products I own, and these values are wildly inaccurate in my experience. Therefore I cannot trust the site for products I do not own.

I was just about to mention something about the price/month for knives. 1 they can easily be sharpened. 2. I've had several good brand knives I've had and used for 5+ years all <$120

You are right, it's far from perfect and I guess no one else has done this before. As mentioned in my blog, I have to take some more data into account to make it a truly meaningful metric, but we will eventually get there :)

I’d say the reason nobody has done this before is because of the data quality issue.

Years owned is simply not a measure of a product lifetime. I am not sure where you will get a meaningful lifetime metric from anywhere other than perhaps recyclers.
