I like the drawings -- are they from the Doudna/Steinberg book? (Note that this is not a new book; it was published in 2017.)

The idea of using a gene drive to produce malaria-resistant mosquitoes is new to me. I wonder if this approach has advantages over a gene-drive intended to destroy the mosquitoes outright.

Yeah, I had heard about using gene drive to destroy mosquitoes too, perhaps from a recent gatesnotes post from mosquito week. I wonder if this similar technique, or intended at achieving the same consequence or something that is considered in parallel.
