This is really excellent. And it is a good explanation of why I have so much trouble taking boosters of recorded lectures seriously as independent students. The other reason is captured in the old adage: "Hear it and forget it; See it and remember it; Do it and learn it."
I think this is actually about 3000 years old--it's called the Socratic method of teaching. Yes, there were no textbooks to "read ahead" back then, but Socrates drew on the "textbook" of lived experience.
