A theory is the pinnacle of scientific achievement - a complete series of observations, equations, processes etc. that come together to describe a phenomenon.

There is nothing that we know with a higher degree of certainty then a scientific theory, such as the theory of evolution, the theory of general relativity, the theory of quantum mechanics, the theory of newtonian mechanics etc.

Yesiree. We scientists know better. Take, for example, the atomic bomb.

Yes, the atomic bomb, while monstrous, does show that scientists understand the world (and, unfortunately, how to destroy it) better than anyone else.

Hackers and physicists apparently share the same malady of inflated ego.

I'd argue that by now The Bomb has saved way more people than it has killed (no WW3, etc).

And that's not even counting the other achievements of the Manhattan Project, such as the first artificial nuclear reactor.
