are we still comparing programming languages like this in 2020? that's why I am starting to grow sick of this industry - so much folklore, so little engineering

That's pointless complaint when it's under a folklore article. It's like complaining about not enough heavy metal under a Taylor Swift song. There's plenty of engineering going on too and you can read about that instead.

Not sure what you mean by 'folklore' in this context. There's a lot of discussion in the piece about memory safety, garbage collection, build performance, and so forth. Don't you think that's engineering, or at least engineering-adjacent?
