This proposition enshrines a bunch of privacy changes into the state constitution. Many of them are good, but some are bad, and by being in the constitution, are now nearly impossible to change.

This law was basically written by Google and Facebook, so it is a combination of regulatory capture and their hidden agenda. We already have a strong privacy law passed by the legislature a few years ago. Any changes should have gone through the legislature, but the reason they didn't do that was because the stuff in this law were too radical even for the California legislature, so they took it straight to the people.

Interestingly, it passed in all of the liberal strongholds of the state, except San Francisco county.

Do you have a source for this? This isn't something I remember reading in my prevote research anywhere.

I do not. I read it in my prevote research that the author was secretly working for Google and Facebook (and is a former Google employee) and put in loopholes for them so that it looked stronger but wasn't. I remember it was from what seemed like a reputable source.

But now I can't find it, and can only find the opposite. So I may very well have been duped by a very good disinformation campaign.
