Interesting that many of the projects have a core consisting of discovery, collecting and sharing of specific or niche knowledge.

Seems to me like that's a strong indicator that existing search and social knowledge sharing options are failing a large segment of the population.

I think it's true that in general it's quite hard to find knowledge on the internet that isn't written by some generic megablogging website by people who have little experience in what they are writing.

Take reviews of products. If you search that on any search engine you get very generic reviews from PC Magazine, Tech Republic, etc.

Or if you want to find a list of good wordpress plugins...the lists you get are so generic, written probably by someone who doesn't even use wordpress.

Personally I've found products and reviews written by individuals who take the time to launch a single product or two much more informative and personal than the generic nonsense that has been pushed to the top by SEO masters.

Hello HN, I’m the person behind Women Make, a community for women founders and makers. In October I organized an online hackathon. Participants had 30 days to build and ship something. 160+ people registered and it resulted in dozens of projects launched at the end of the month!

Great work on organizing this effort ! :)

so many projects, great work everyone
